What decade?

What decade?
Dad, me, Mom on vacation in Tampa

synopsis

Coming from a long line of Marys...mine being 'Mary Ann'...nicknamed 'annie' early on in life because my exasperated Dad would go through almost every Mary before getting to the one he was actually trying to summon. I grew up in a loving, quirky, not-always-perfect but pretty darned close family, with a sheltered Catholic upbringing and one big sister, who had 4 daughters close to my age who were more like sisters than nieces, and who treated me more like the 5th daughter than a sister, in a German-Swiss ancestral, traditional household in Louisville, Kentucky. A medium-sized city. smalltown attitude with an ingrained sense of devotion and homage to the past, ancestral, architectural, cultural, traditional.

Attended Catholic primary school, an all girls private high school, Sacred Heart Academy. Course of study: Required college-prep curriculum, intensive in French, Geography, the Social Studies and Environmental Sciences. Played Volleyball, Bowling, Softball, Tennis. Crafted. Loved to attend rock concerts; looked SO forward to every family gathering; antiqued with relatives for fun. Trinity and DeSales Football, the Trinity-St. X football rivalry; Trinity baseball. Attended the occasional keg party. American Turners softball, boating, swimming every summer. At the tender young age of 19 while at University of Louisville, I was invited to teach in the full time program at the dePaul School, a private school for dyslexic children. It was there that I learned the devotion required and selflessly given to the development and welfare of the student and how crucial it is that we have the best of the best in teaching.
I remained at dePaul for 6 years, until I decided to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a flight attendant (encouraged by my sister who probably just wanted to get me out of her hair!) I spent 11 adventure-filled years as a cabin crew member, alongside some of the most phenominally dedicated, caring, professional (and fun) individuals. With the faculty, administration and families during the last week of May, 1987, I attended graduation of many of my students from dePaul's Transitional program, the very next week I was in Chicago, ready to begin 4 weeks of flight attendant training for Midway Airlines. The Daily Nook

GOODWIN'S HAND

I will be sharing a little nook of our log home daily...you may see a treasured family heirloom, an antique or perhaps a photo....who knows what will show up!

Today's feature!

A grandfather clock, designed and handmade by my Great-Grandpa Goodwin, in the early 1900's.....I adore this clock. It was one of two very special pieces he made for me. The other beauty is a handmade violin which I will share with you soon. Enjoy!

Just getting started

Above: now, second from left, with 'the girls'....family....Thanksgiving of 2008

This is me, age 10, with Mom and Dad on the yearly trip to visit my grandparents in Florida. I am not even going to give that away but you can probably tell the decade from the ensemble of bright yellow cut offs, aigner sandals and crew neck polyester. ha!

I procrastinate when updating, so I ask that anyone kind enough to visit please don't be too harsh. It just means that I am working on concepts, designing, revamping, or searching high and low, and really high, for vintage treasures or up in the loft going through boxes.
